It’s clear that COVID-19 has had a massive impact on the economy and people’s lives in general. But what is the impact on law firms specifically, and how does practice area affect this impact? We posed this question in March with part I of this case study, but we’d like to follow up to see how the law firms we profiled at the end of March are doing now, right at the start of July.

Theory:

Our theory is the same as before, that overall, law firms will suffer just like most other businesses due to decreased activity of people across the board. With that said, we expect to see a gradual start to recovery from any drops in traffic and leads that happened at the height of social isolation in early March. Same as before, we expect to see some variance in impact from one practice area to another, i.e. personal injury lawyers are hit harder than family law firms. Note, the data and images used here are focussed on organic traffic only, whereas our previous case study was looking at all traffic to the site.

Conclusion:

The following is a spot check of 9 different law firms across three different practice areas, the same firms in the same order as in part I. Almost across the board, April was a bad month. That being said, there were a few exceptions, however no exceptions limited to practice area.
